Agile Kinetic is an app for patients that have undergone joint surgery to track their recovery. The project consisted of a mobile app for patients and a corresponding web app for surgeons and physiotherapists. I was responsible for the UI of both.
The purpose of the Agile Kinetic app was to replace the need for multiple follow up appointments in hospital and enable patients to rehabilitate at home instead.
The are three ways of tracking progress in the app which mirror the activities that would take place at an in person appointment; rating their level of comfort, measuring the mobility of the affected limb and the ability to complete a regimen of increasingly challenging physical exercises. The challenge was making an interface that was clear and simple enough that is was comfortable to use by an older age demographic and offered a guided enough process for those users to feel reassured that they were doing the right thing.
Patients are able to measure their mobility in the app and use this to track their progress as time goes on.
The process of taking and submitting photos of the affected limb is pretty tricky and special consideration had to be made to hand-hold as much as possible. I made sure there was only one clear action for users to take per page and that button were easy to see and interact with. Keeping the UI simple and uncluttered focuses users on the task and messages of reassurance let them know they’re on the right track.
The information collected in the mobile app was available to medical staff to keep track of their patients’ progress. I was concious of getting the important information across quickly, so designed clearly defined components, grouped relevant pieces of information together on the page and used icons instead of titles where appropriate to keep the page uncluttered.
